We get a lot of questions about which tisanes (hot herbal drink) is best to enjoy at night. If you haven’t asked this question yet, maybe at some point you will. Every person is different, both in tastes and in how things take effect, but there are some well-know tisanes that help a person relax. The list I’ve come up with are the top three tisanes I drink when I need something to unwind at the end of the day.
Lavender has been known for centuries to be helpful for stress relief, insomnia, and just overall relaxation. It does have a very unique flavor, which some people do not enjoy. If you do enjoy the flavor of lavender, you won’t find a better drink to relax with at night.
The entire Mint Family: Mint teas are known for the relaxing, soothing qualities they contain. Spearmint is popular for tension and headache relief, and Peppermint is known for its ability to ease a tummy, and how it helps with headaches.
Rooibos is naturally caffeine free bush that grows in South Africa. It grows with a naturally spicy-sweet flavor and has a little more body and depth than many other tisanes. The South African Rooibos Council is a great source for information and photos! At Queen’s Pantry, we have over fifteen blends of Rooibos – including Carrot Cake Rooibos, Marzipan Rooibos, and Lime Chiffon Rooibos. My favorite is the Lime Chiffon, so I keep it around pretty regularly.
If you’re looking for good tea for at night, look for teas with some of these ingredients or some combination of these three.
