The other day, I went to make myself a mug of tea. I picked out my favorite larger-than-life mug and grabbed my permanent tea filter off the shelf. To my horror, I realized that my infuser was rust colored from all the tea stains. Sure, it might not be a big deal, it is a tea infuser after all. But I still decided that I’d like to see if I could get rid of some of the stain on my infusers.
I tried the running them through the dishwasher, and while they came out clean the stains were still going strong.
Next, I tried using white vinegar.
The vinegar did make a little dent. The infuser on the left is the one I washed with vinegar. As you can tell, it is a little more silver (the original color of the mesh) that the infuser on the right which didn’t get a vinegar bath.
I still wasn’t completely happy though. I could still see the majority of the tea stains, and I figured there had to be a better option for getting those washed out.
Baking soda and water were next.
I have to say, I’m probably most pleased with the baking soda option. The infuser on the left is the one I washed with baking soda, and it got rid of the most of the stains.
I won’t clean my infusers every time with baking soda, but I do think I’ll do a quick scrub down every few months!
Any tips on how to clean tea stains on tea accessories?
